Problem

Car production lines involve many complex processes managed by engineers and production managers. The older systems used to plan, assign, and monitor these processes were fragmented and hard to scale. Engineers lacked a clear way to visualize and control production or reuse existing programs efficiently. This made the entire workflow slower and harder to manage.

Process

I started with research to understand how engineers and managers interact with existing systems and their pain points. Rapid prototyping and weekly user testing ensured the design aligned with their needs and business requirements. Based on this, we mapped out user journeys and designed interfaces that reduced complexity and improved clarity.

Solution

We created an internal automation platform that allows engineers to build, assign, and reuse production programs for car components. It offers a structured view of configurations, tools, and system data, making it easier to manage and adapt the production process. A key feature is the Visualization tool, which helps users see how programs run across the production line.

Results

The new platform gave the car manufacturer a more efficient way to manage the production line. It cut program setup time by 55% and reduced production errors by 40%. Factories could adapt faster to new car details, and engineers reported higher confidence in managing workflows.

Learnings

This project improved my ability to design for technical users and complex workflows. I learned how to turn abstract production logic into intuitive UI components that support both daily tasks and strategic planning. One big challenge was balancing flexibility with structure.
